DeLorean DMC-12 Back to the Future Time Machine
An extraordinary opportunity to own one of cinema’s most iconic cars. This genuine 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 has been professionally transformed into an incredibly detailed accurate recreation of the legendary time machine from the Back to the Future trilogy.
Unlike a static film prop, this remains a fully functioning, road-going DeLorean retaining its original 2.85 litre naturally aspirated PRV V6 engine, 5 speed manual gearbox, brushed stainless steel bodywork, grey leather interior and iconic gullwing doors. The 1981 model year, manual gearbox and grey interior with a grooved hood matches the specification of the original film car.
The conversion includes signature illuminated exterior flux bands with various flashing and pulsating LED lights installed within the mesh, rear-mounted plutonium chamber with removable yellow lid (just like the film), extensive cabling and wiring throughout (correct colours and amounts of each wire…. even the cable ties are the right way round). Inside is an illuminated replica flux capacitor, time circuits display, film-correct dashboard instrumentation, additional switches and controls, custom centre console equipment, extensive electrical detailing and additional equipment integrated into the rear parcel shelf. The exterior lighting can be remotely activated by key fob. When you open the doors, the car makes the door noise just like the film. Theirs is also a second key fob which controls a hidden stereo that plays quotes and songs from the film.
The Time Circuits work and sound just as you’d expect. You can enter dates which show up on the display and if you hit 88mph (the white dash box works via GPS) it sets off the time circuits with sound effects and additional lighting within the Flux Capacitor, or you could just press the demo button to show it off while stationary. Once you’ve done a time sequence the plutonium empty warning light and sound comes into effect.
The Time Machine has some incredibly rare parts sourced from around the world. A few of these items would be the Janitrol heater can, originally found off a 70s helicopter, this part alone was £2500. Connected to the Janitrol is the Sikorsky Arrowhead 711374-1 hose, which is another rare original part on the car. It’s long orange pipe on the deck lid, and this part was £1500. The intention of this build was to create one of the best Time machine replicas sourcing the best parts throughout.
